Assassination of Prime Minister S.W.R.D. Bandaranaike, Rosmead Place

On September 25th 1959, Prime Minister Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike was shot and seriously wounded by a Buddhist monk, on the verandah of his private residence, Tintagel, on Rosmead Place. He succumbed to his injuries the next day.

The assassin, Ven Talduwe Somarama Thero, along with six other persons, including Mapitigama Buddharakkitha Thero were charged with conspiring to murder the Prime Minister. Three of them received a death sentence.
