Attempted bombing of World Trade Centre, Fort

On October 15th 1997, the LTTE drove a truck laden with explosives into the underground garage of the Galadari Hotel in an effort to blow up the 39-storeyed World Trade Centre located adjacent to the hotel. Fifteen people, including the Chief Monk of the Sambuddhaloka Viharaya, were killed and over a 100 injured, including several tourists.
