Katunayake Airport Attack

The Katunayake International Airport was attacked by the LTTE, on July 24 2001 and had a profound impact on Sri Lanka’s military, airline and tourism industries and the economy as a whole. All 14 LTTE guerillas as well as six SL Airforce personnel and one soldier were killed while 12 soldiers and four civilians were injured. Eight military aircraft and three airbuses were destroyed and 15 other aircraft were damaged.
